Determination of Melting Point of a given Organic Compound 

Materials Required :-

Procedure:-

• First powder the crystalline substance.
• Take a capillary tube and seal one end by heating it.
• Fill the capillary tube with the substance. To fill the tube, make a heap of the powdered substance on the porous plate. Push one end of the capillary tube into the heap. Some of the substance will enter the capillary tube.
• Now tap the sealed end of the capillary tube on the porous plate gently. Fill the capillary tube upto 2-3 mm.
• Attach the capillary tube to a thermometer using a thread.
• Take liquid paraffin in a beaker and place it over a piece of wire gauze placed over a tripod stand.
• Clamp the thermometer carrying the test tube to an iron stand and immerse them in the bath of liquid paraffin. The surface tension of the bath liquid is sufficient to hold the capillary tube in position.
• Heat the beaker slowly while constantly stirring the contents using a stirrer to maintain a uniform temperature throughout.
• When the temperature is within 15o of the melting point of the pure substance, the flame is reduced. Then the temperature rises slowly.
• Note the temperature (t1) when the substance starts melting.
• Again note the temperature (t2) when the substance has completely melted.
• The average of the two readings gives the correct melting point of the substance.

Observations :-

Record your observations in the table given below.

Note the temperature when the substance;		Melting point of the given substance (t1 + t2 / 2 (oC)
Starts melting t1(0C)	Has completely melted t2(0C)

 Inference :-

Melting point of the given substance = ... oC

Precautions :-

• Use dry and powdered sample for the determination of melting point.
• Keep the lower end of the capillary tube and the thermometer at the same level.
• Packing of the powder should be uniform without any large air gaps in between the solid particles.

Silver nitrate Test	To a small portion of Lassaigne's extract add 1 ml of conc. nitric acid and boil for some time. Cool the contents and to it add silver nitrate solution.	A white precipitate soluble in ammonium hydroxide forms.	Presence of chlorine in the  compound.
		Pale yellow precipitate sparingly soluble in ammonium hydroxide forms.	Presence of bromine in  compound.
		Yellow precipitate insoluble in ammonium hydroxide forms.	Presence of iodine in  compound.
Carbon disulphide Test	Acidify a small portion of Lassaigne's extracts with dil. HCl and add a few drops of carbon disulphide. Now add freshly prepared chlorine water and shake vigorously.	Appearance of orange colour in the carbon disulphide layer.	Presence of bromine in  compound.
		Appearance of violet colour in the carbon disulphide layer.	Presence of iodine in  compound.

وزیراعظم پاکستان عمران خان کی اہلیہ اور خاتون اوّل بشری بی بی امید سے ہیں اور چند ماہ میں ان کے گھر نئے کپتان کی ولادت متوقع ہے۔

وزیراعظم ہاؤس کے قریبی ذرائع کے مطابق وزیراعظم پاکستان باپ بننے والے ہیں اور ان کی اہلیہ بشری بی بی امید سے ہیں اور چند ماہ میں ان کے گھر نئے بچے کی ولادت متوقع ہے۔ 

وزیراعظم پاکستان کی خواہش پر اس بات کو خفیہ رکھا جا رہا ہے کہ اس تمام معاملے کی تشہیر نہ ہو اور جب مناسب وقت آئے گا وہ خود اس کا اعلان کریں گے۔

اس بڑی خبر کے حوالہ سے نامور صحافی خوشنود علی خان نے بھی اشارہ دیا ہے انہوں نے اپنے پروگرام میں بھی اس خبر کی تصدیق کرتے ہوئے کہا ہے کہ پاکستان کی اعلیٰ ترین شخصیت باپ بننے والے ہیں لیکن وہ اس تمام معاملے کو خفیہ رکھے ہوئے ہیں لہٰذا میں بھی ان کا نام نہیں بتانا چاہتا۔

66 سالہ وزیراعظم عمران خان 3 مرتبہ باپ بننے جا رہے ہیں اس سے پہلے ان کے 2 بیٹے ہیں جن نام سلمان خان اور قاسم خان ہے۔

وزیراعظم پاکستان کے یہ دونوں بیٹے ان کی سابقہ اہلیہ جمائما خان سے پیدا ہوئے اور وہ اپنی والدہ کے ساتھ برطانیہ میں ہی رہائش پذیر ہیں۔
عمران خان کے قریبی ذرائع نے یہ بھی بتایا ہے کہ بشریٰ بی بی کی خواہش تھی کہ ان کی عمران خان سے اولاد ہو اور اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان کی خواہش پوری کر دی ۔
